Improving educational outcomes for school-aged children in Victoria

Scroll down

Victoria is facing a decline in educational outcomes, with the greatest burden falling on children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • The Trust aims to improve outcomes for all school-aged children through targeted and systemic interventions that are grounded in evidence. The Trust’s work is guided by levers known to improve educational outcomes: curriculum, pedagogy, teacher quality, school leadership, student behaviour and wellbeing, and family and community engagement.

  • Impact is measured through indicators such as improved educational outcomes and attendance, increased community ownership and leadership, enhanced delivery and participation, increased use of data-driven decision making and broader adoption of evidence-based approaches to improve educational outcomes.

The Trust’s strategic approach centres on two key pillars:

  • Strengthening targeted interventions in communities experiencing disadvantage that provide evidence to drive systemic change

Through more effective, locally responsive programs, building a stronger evidence base of what works, scaling successful practice and closer alignment of community-based intervention and system decision-makers.

  • Driving evidence-based interventions that have the potential for widespread implementation

Through improved teacher effectiveness, the adoption of evidence-based teaching practice, evidence-based curriculum and assessment, more equitable learning opportunities and policy change.

  • In disadvantaged communities, the Trust’s support is directed towards effective, locally-led programs that strengthen the evidence base of what works, scale proven practices, and encourage alignment between community initiatives and system-level decision-makers. This approach ensures interventions are impactful, sustainable, and tailored to local contexts.

  • Across the system, we work to strengthen teacher effectiveness through evidence-based teaching practices, improve curriculum design and delivery, and broaden equitable learning opportunities. These efforts aim to ensure that policy reform drives innovation and responsiveness throughout schools, and that educators are empowered to advance excellence and equity.

Our Support

We support non-profit organisations that work in partnership with school education providers to improve educational outcomes for school-aged children in Victoria.

We prioritise organisations that are building an evidence-base of what works, and those that are working in collaboration with other organisations. We are interested in providing support in partnership with other funders.

How we grant

To avoid applicants investing time in proposals that are unlikely to proceed, we engage early with prospective grantees to confirm alignment with our funding priorities and strategic approach. This ensures only well-aligned organisations invest time in preparing application material for the Trust.

The Trust accepts applications by invitation only and does not consider unsolicited applications.

Organisations that meet our eligibility criteria will be invited to submit a grant enquiry. The steps to the right outline the prospective grantee process.

  1. Check eligibility

If your organisation is a Victorian‑based charity working in areas aligned with the Trust’s strategic priorities, you are welcome to complete the eligibility quiz. Organisations that meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to submit a brief enquiry form.

  2. Initial assessment

Organisations that demonstrate alignment with the Trust’s priorities may be invited to provide further information, usually through a brief phone call.

  3. Invitation to apply

Where there is strong alignment with the Trust’s strategic priorities, organisations may be invited to submit a grant application.
